Whilst attending the Worcestershire County Hall, I was searching for inspiration to create a piece of work which will be displayed there. After exploring the interior of the building, I felt the atmosphere was not suited to my style of work. My work is expressive, where in contrast the interior seemed quite sterile.
However, upon touring the exterior of County Hall I was pulled towards the tiled pattern on the grounds just outside the entrance. The entire building had this rigid skeleton that didn't appeal to me, yet this tiled pattern stood away from the building and had a completely different feel to it.
When I first saw the pattern on the floor I wondered how interesting it would look to paint all the tiles different colours to bring some life to the building. This developed into me thinking about how the pattern initially pulled me inwards, whether I'd be able to create that effect with the use of colour.
Working with colour is something I am going to begin experimenting with first, developing what I want to achieve at the County Hall.
