charles darwin
Charles Darwins drawings were my first inspiration when it came to drawing the belemnite fossils. With the age of the fossils I wanted to create aged drawings to represent their age. What I noticed about Darwin's drawings that they too were also aged. The paper was worn and discoloured.
This inspired me to draw the belemnite fossils onto brown paper with a sketchbook. I wanted to draw within a sketchbook so that I could take the sketchbook out into the landscape and draw the belemnites out there. I was travelling whilst I was collecting the belemnites so having a light weight book meant I was able to keep it on my person and draw. http://www.amnh.org/our-research/darwin-manuscripts-project "Darwin's theory of evolution explains how species of living things have changed over geological time. The theory is supported by evidence from fossils, and by the rapid changes that can be seen to occur in microorganisms such as antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Many species have become extinct in the past and the extinction of species continues to happen."http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/aqa_pre_2011/evolution/evolutionrev1.shtml |
