Landscape
A short film I made from West Runton
Whilst exploring the coast line of Norfolk, I came across a long stretch of beach at West Runton. This is where I saw the performance piece The Walking Elephant. I was intrigued by the space, I wanted to explore the landscape to see what I could find.
The landscape was a long stretch of cliffs and beach, from rocks to clean sand. Although the elephant fossils were found within the faces of the cliffs, I wasn't truly interested in exploring that space. As a child I was always drawn to rock pools, finding the creatures that lived within the space. I guess this fascination followed me into adulthood as I found myself pulled away from the cliffs and beach and into the rock pools. Due to growing up in the Midlands whenever I find myself by the sea I always spend my time within the rock pools. They weren't my usual every day cityscape experience, so I resorted back to a childlike state of exploring.
However, what I noticed was I was no longer truly interested in the creatures, although still beautiful and fascinating, I was looking for something else. For as far as the eye could see down the landscape, there were rock pools for me to explore. Within these spaces I found the belemnite fossils, which is what West Runton beach is famous for.
